Today we welcome Rena Young to our blog. Stacy Giberson had an opportunity to sit and talk with her about what she wanted to share!

Rena’s Back in Sports and Thriving at Home!

I spoke with Rena, and she shared with me how happy she is that she has been able to enjoy Special Olympics and play in sporting events. Rena couldn’t play her favorite sports for a two-year span of time because of Covid 19 restrictions.  Rena plays basketball, does swimming and skiing events as well as soccer.  Rena shared that she played on the Grasshopper Soccer team and this past summer, played against the boys and girls middle school teams. They won both games!  Rena also enjoys Special Olympics track and field and bowling in Presque Isle. In the photo, Rena is sporting a light blue t-shirt and wearing her soccer metal with pride.

Rena lives in Conner, Maine with her shared living providers Makayla and Matt.  She graduated from Opportunity Training Center (OTC) in Presque Isle 1996 and has tried few different living situations. Rena has been at her current residence for just over a year and said she loves it. She shared with me that this is her favorite type of living situation.
