Hi Everybody,

I wanted to tell you about a new & exciting SUFU opportunity that you may want to become involved with: the SUFU Legislative Chapter!

If you would like to work together with me & other SUFU Members on finding was that we as SUFU Members can have an impact on legislation, in order to make our lives better, this chapter is for you! ๐Ÿ™‚

We just had our first meeting last week & it went very well. If you would like to read the notes from that meeting, just let me know & I will get them to you.

It was decided that the Chapter focus will be on โ€œrestrictive legislation.โ€ Restrictive legislation means bills and laws that might be intended to help people with disabilities, actually hurt us instead. For example, members talked about serious concerns they have with guardianship rules and also problems with our transportation system in Maine for people with disabilities.

It is my goal & the goal of the committee to work together to make changes that will not only affect our own lives but the lives of other people with disabilities!

Iโ€™ll be honest: How best to make that change is something that we will need to work on together & at times, it wonโ€™t be easy. Change is hard & it can be scary but if we listen to each other & work together, I truly believe that we can make a difference.

If this sounds like something you would enjoy being a part of, just let me know. ๐Ÿ™‚ You can email me at aolmstead@sufumaine.org or call me at 827-1047.

Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 from 4:30 pm โ€“ 5:30 pm.

Our meetings are over the computer (or over the phone if you donโ€™t have access to a computer).

Iโ€™m really excited about this & I hope you are too! ๐Ÿ™‚

Until Next Time,
Avery
